JAMOH PARLEY’S THE MEDIA
…as he marks 100 days in office
As part of events to mark his administration’s first hundred days in office under his leadership as the Director-General of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Bashir Jamoh hosted a media parley where Senior Editors of Nigerian Media organizations were in attendance.
The exclusive event took place on the 13th of June 2020, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in GRA Ikeja in strict adherence to the COVID-19 guidelines. In attendance was the President Nigeria Guild of Editors and editors from both print and broadcast media.
Dr. Jamoh used the opportunity the parley provided to rally support for his administration and the agency. He challenged the journalist to report and investigate more maritime stories. Stressing that the media is a major stakeholder in delivering the NIMASA mandate as they are there to inform and educate the populace on the agency activities.
In his words “I look forward to a day when all print and broadcast media will have maritime stories as their main headlines.”He also called on all media practitioners to be fair in their reportage and always seek for clarifications when they are in doubt.
He talked about some of his administration achievements in the last 100 days, as editors present were given the opportunity to ask questions about different areas the agency mandates covered.
Giving the vote of thanks, the Executive Director of Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services Engr. Victor Ochei, emphasized the role of the editors cum the media in nation-building. In his words “don’t praise us when we have not done it and when we have, tell it”
